1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how ThingsBoard, Inc. ("ThingsBoard," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and discloses information in connection with the ThingsBoard IoT Hub (the "IoT Hub"). By accessing or using the IoT Hub, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the IoT Hub.

2. Information We Collect

When you register or interact with the IoT Hub, we may collect the following types of data:

  • Account Information: Your name, display name or username, email address, and login credentials created during registration.
  • Organization Information: Your company or organization name, if you are submitting Contributions on behalf of an entity.
  • Contribution Metadata: Title, description, tags, categorization, authorship attribution, submission timestamps, and version history associated with any Contribution you publish.
  • Usage Data: IP address, approximate geographic location, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, pages viewed, download activity, and search queries collected automatically when you access the IoT Hub.
  • Communications: The content of any messages you send us for support or other inquiries, along with your contact details.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected for the following purposes:

  • Platform Operation: To provide, maintain, and improve the IoT Hub, including processing Contributions and enabling downloads.
  • Attribution: To credit you as the Author of your Contributions, consistent with the MIT License and the IoT Hub Terms of Use.
  • Access Control & Security: To authenticate users, detect malicious code or policy violations, and enforce the Terms of Use.
  • Communication: To notify you about updates to your Contributions, policy changes, or responses to your inquiries.
  • Analytics: To understand usage patterns and improve platform features and searchability.
  • Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our agreements.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Public Contributions: Contributions you publish on the IoT Hub, including their metadata and authorship attribution, are publicly accessible by all users of the IoT Hub and the ThingsBoard platform. Do not include personal or sensitive information within the content of your Contributions.
  • Service Providers: We may share information with trusted third-party providers who assist us in operating the IoT Hub (e.g., hosting, analytics, security). These providers are contractually obligated to process data only on our behalf and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
  • Legal Compliance: If required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ThingsBoard, Inc., its users, or the public.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via the email address associated with your account prior to any such transfer.

5. Irrevocability of Published Contributions

Consistent with the IoT Hub Terms of Use, the license granted over a published Contribution is irrevocable. Metadata and authorship attribution associated with a Contribution that has already been downloaded or implemented by other users will remain accessible even after you remove the Contribution from the IoT Hub. ThingsBoard, Inc. cannot retroactively withdraw publicly available information that has already been accessed or cached by users or third-party systems.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

  • Retention: We retain your personal information for as long as your account remains active or as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Contribution metadata and authorship records are retained indefinitely to preserve the integrity of the MIT License attribution chain.
  • Account Deletion: You may request deletion of your account at any time. Upon deletion, we will remove or anonymize your personal account data within a reasonable time, subject to legal retention obligations and the irrevocability provisions described above.
